Equine Myofascial Release

Listening to the body’s stories—one layer at a time.

Equine myofascial release is a specialized hands-on therapy that targets the fascia, the intricate web of connective tissue that surrounds and supports every muscle, bone, joint and organ in your horse’s body. This gentle yet effective technique focuses on releasing restrictions and adhesions within the fascial system that can develop from injury, repetitive movement patterns, compensation, or everyday stress.

During a myofascial release session, I use sustained, gentle pressure and stretching techniques to locate areas of fascial restriction and encourage the tissue to soften and lengthen naturally. The technique involves slow, deliberate movements that allow the fascia time to respond and release.

Myofascial release can support horses who:

  • Move unevenly or resist certain gaits
  • Struggle with posture or chronic tightness
  • Show a reduced range of motion
  • Have recurring lameness issues
  • Are recovering from injury or trauma
  • Show behavioural signs of discomfort or shutdown
  • Simply need regular care to maintain optimal physical condition

Myofascial release is distinguished by its whole-body approach, recognising that restrictions in one area often affect distant parts of the horse’s body through the interconnected fascial network. Sessions are typically quiet and focused, allowing horses to process the changes as they occur. Many horses show immediate signs of relief, including deeper breathing, lowered head position, and increased willingness to move freely. Regular myofascial release can serve as an excellent preventive measure, helping maintain your horse’s structural integrity and supporting long-term soundness, comfort and performance.

Please note: Myofascial release is a complementary wellness modality and not a replacement for veterinary care.
